According to the manual the boxster makes an "audible" sound when the ABS engages under heavy braking. I assume its the horn as thats what it sounded like the first time I had to stop rather quickly. Problem is that the horn seems to sound with less braking pressure recently. Should I be worried? Is it likely to be a computer or mechanical cause? How easy is this to fix? Will it cost me seventeen million dollars to sort out?

No sweat... From what I understand this is a common problem. There is a metal piece that sits behind the airbag that acts as a ground when you push on the center of the steering wheel to make the horn sound. You can order this part from the Porsche dealer for about $75.00 and replace it yourself. You will be pulling off the airbag and you will need a special tool to remove the airbag bolts. Really easy. This tool can be purchased at your local auto parts place (AutoZone or something) it is about $5.00. It is very simple and took me about 30 min from start to finish. Make sure your battery is disconnected. Before you disconnect your battery make sure you have the code for your radio, otherwise you will be locked out from using your stereo.
What is going on is the rubber grommets that act as springs have worn out.

You must be leaning on the horn with your hand. The audible noise from the ABS is more like a quick pressure release/clunking kind of noise. I would say the other post will fix your problem.:)

Have similar problem with the horn going off. How do you remove the air bag on the steering wheel to replace the horn connections?

Me also! I just bought a 2000 Boxster today, and noticed for the first time, (didn't happen when I was test driving it) that when I slow down, or go over bumps, the horn starts to intermittingly start beeping. People are turning around thinking I'm honking at them to hurry up!
