Hey everyone

I have recently decided it time for me to buy a Porsche... Seeing as this is a very important time in anyone's life LOL.. I wanted some buying tips or some advice

I want to buy a 98 - 99 boxster to kick around for 5-6 years.. And i was wondering what i should look for in the boxster.. So i got some questions

1) Are there any problem areas and what should i do to test/check them out ?

2) How much does maintenance run on a boxster.. I am an avid mechanic i know how to change clutches brakes and so on and so on.. is the boxster the kind of car you can do this on or do you constantly have to run to the dealer ?

3) Are the convertible tops alot of trouble ?? are they problematic at that age ? Should i just stick with a hard top.. ( i actually prefer the hard top)

4) What are the major service intervals ?? what should service should have been completeed at 100 -120K km's ??

5) I may get a bias answer but is the boxster a fun car to drive ?? never owed a porsche before and i want a nice sports car thats going to put a smile on my face and i'm going to enjoy driving

Thanks in advanced for all your help

Hey bin. I will be in the market for one myself in the next few month's. I will be looking around my state. i have a few friends with Boxters... hence my interest in one. Good luck with your search if you don't already have one.

Whow! I just joined this site to learn about the boxster because I wanted some advise as to what years were better than others.... I noticed no one answered mister_bin's question that he asked in the begining of February..... So I guess no one is going to answer mine, so much for this forum.....

Great fun to drive, but parts and service are a nightmare. I have 49K on my S and have learned today that I need the right rear wheel bearing replaced. Total cost at the Porsche dealer--$800 bucks. I have owned more than twenty cars in my life and have never had to replace a wheel bearing. Makes you wonder about the durability of Porsche products.

Can be this done at home with basic tools?
