I just bought a 1997 Boxter with 60K miles. I want to take it to my mechanic next week. It had an oil change last week. ANything else I should have done while there. Is there any routine maintenance other than oil changes.

I am surprised that no one has replied to your question. I too have a '97 Boxster. After I had it a couple of weeks the grooved (serpentine) belt came off the idler pulley. I replaced both the pulley and the belt. My suggestion is to replace the belt for sure. I would also replace the cabin air filter and the engine air filter.
Other than that I would buy a scanning device like the Actron CP9125 you can get at amazon for $60. It has helped me to understand what the engine check light means and how to interpret it.
If you find the engine runs funny after filling with gas make sure the gas cap is sealing and also check the oil input cap for the same reason.
You might also get new Boesch wiper blades at AutoZone for $ 10 ea.
