Hello,

This is my first post on the forum and I'm looking for some advice/help. I own a 1999 Boxster, my wife put the top down last week, drove it to the grocery store and now the top won't go back up. It doesn't make a sound...I looked at the fuse, switched it out and nothing changed. I'm hoping that someone here might have some advice for me in terms of what the problem most likely is?

Second issue is the check engine light has been on since we bought the car. I took it to my porsche/audi/vw mechanic and he couldn't find any issue. The car runs great but I wonder if something could be wrong and that by not having it fixed will create costly issues in the long term. The car does have an aftermarket tape deck in it... I wonder if altering the electronics could have created a problem.

Well the other thing I would check is the largest relay under the dash on the Driver's side. It will look kinda like the end of a pack of cigarettes. This is the relay that controls the top as well as the windows when the top is in motion. Also you have to have the car in park with the hand brake up to operate the top as well. Let me know what happens. I use the 6 foot test on the relay. (Hold the relay about head height and drop it on a hard floor on it's head not the pins. It might free up the contacts in the relay.

I suggest you that take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. I wouldn't think that the two issues are related. Hope this helped and best wishes.
