Hi everyone

Im currently considering to buy a 2000 Boxster S with 53,000 on the clock.

As Im not exactly a mechanic and my mechanic friend isnt anywhere near where the car is I want to get a professional person to look at the car.

At first I thought about getting an AA/RAC inspection done but heard bad things.

Then I've spoken to Porsche who offer the following service:

Thank you for your enquiry. We offer a Comprensive Techinical Inspection (CTI). This is what may be commonly known as a 111 point check. This is the same inspection that we carry out on all of our used cars before we retail them in order to meet Porsche standards. This inspection would highlight any existing faults on the car. The cost of the inspection is £180 plus VAT.

What would you do?

I have bought cars and had them inspected, they list a few items that are easy to figure out. They give you a report... weeks later a small problem occurs, they say well can't really see that on an inspection ! Most inspections are pretty useless. I have bought a Corvette no inspection then my Porsche no inspection either. And no problems.. Take a good test drive, turn off the radio and listen for odd sounds, engine, suspension, steering, brakes, Drive on the highway, quiet roads, make lots of left and right turns. Try the reverse, wipers, convertible top. Once you stop the car check the oil, oil level, smell it see if it smells burnt. Make sure you get a CARFAX before buying the car, it's loaded with details about the car.
