Hi everybody, brand new here but if I get the car I have a feeling I'll be here a lot.
I found a 2003 Boxster S for sale in a nearby neighborhood. The car appears to be in fantastic condition with full maintenance records and an original meticulous owner. The only problem is on the test drive you hear this distinct metallic resonance that matchs the engine speed at higher rpms.
I am suspecting it's a loose heat shield around the catalytic but can't be sure. I had an old Miata that had almost the exact same noise and we simply removed the heat shield around the cat. I have been in a couple of other Boxsters to know this is not a normal sound. It's a manual shift and only occurs when the car is moving. When you try to duplicate the sound at the curb by simply revving the engine... Nothing but the usual sweet Boxster intake sound and quiet reserved engine/exhaust note.
Does anybody have any info and please forgive me if I trapzed into the wrong discussion group, thanks.
