My thought is if you don't experience IMS failure by 60K miles, it probably ain't gonna happen. However, there is no warning and I can happen at any time. If you are really concerned, go for a 987 model (2004 and newer) which doesn't have IMS issues. Think of it this way, you'll spend $3K-6K if you have an IMS failure on a 986. Better safe than sorry - AND THE 987 VERSION IS A MUCH, MUCH BETTER CAR

You seem pretty knowledgeable. I'm considering a used Boxster. I'm pretty familiar with the IMS problems and such, but there seem to be a lot of 97-99 Boxsters out there with anywhere from 80K-125K miles that appear to be really good cars from around $8k-$11K. How concerned should I be with the IMS problems on higher mileage cars? Thanks, Pastor T

Without looking at the vehicle, it's impossible to give you advice based on a personal assessment. Some common wisdom is low mileage cars develop more problems. But that isn't always true.
So here's what I suggest. Bite the bullet and take the vehicle to a Porsche dealer or a local Porsche mechanic who has all the tools and diagnostic equipment (this ISN'T a guy who claims he works on European cars). It costs about $400, but any major flaws should show up.

Hello. I'm pretty new here but I've also noticed little activity. I check daily and don't understand but I will say that with the calendar set at Dec. 2010 and the 2010 Porsche Cars listed on the site navigation it really appears as if the forum is not maintained although I'm sure it is. Just food for thought.

You tried the C3 fuse directly?
Have you looked for an emergency trunk release outside the car in the left fender well?
Have you called Porsche for help?

my battery is dead and I cannot get to the battery no red tab to pull battery charger does no good on the fuse box / door sill.. what is up
