Will I go for it?

Hi All,
I am a new member here.
I have been looking for a sport summer car, I was originally looking for an old Audi TT and then starting to realize that for a few K more I could get an old Porsche Boxster.
Porsche is a dream car from when I was a kid and I am really enthousiastic about this purchase. I went to see one yesterday and it was a mint 99 gray with 80,000km. So clean that got me worried. Surfing on the web and on this Forum made me realized that people really take care of this little beauty!
I think I will go for it with proper inspection. Would you go to a Porsche dealer for the inspection?
Is there anything specific I should be looking for on this year (wearing or else?). I will continue reading on this site trying to find as much information as I can, but want to post an intro, many great info on here and looking forward to exchange with you all if I finally put my hand on one
regards!

Hi and welcome. The mileage shouldn't be an issue, depending on price.
I would take it to a Porsche dealer for a review. Generally, they'd know all the bugs/problem areas on the model (986)- and wear points.
I had a 2002 S that ended up blowing foam out of the AC vents and some minor stuff. The biggest threat is the dreaded bearing failure, which can strike at any time - though I'd suspect this vehicle is exempt.
It really comes down to money.
For me, only an "S" will do - big difference in performance - and having now owned 987 as well as a 986, I think the 987 is the hands-down winner.

Thanks Boscoe for the welcome. I am curious about the following sentence
''The biggest threat is the dreaded bearing failure, which can strike at any time - though I'd suspect this vehicle is exempt.''
I am aware of the bearing issue and this is probably why I havent put my deposit yet. I would like to understand why you think this vehicule would be exempt.
Thanks in advance.

Well, not every 986 had a bearing failure. In fact, the vast majority did not. And those that did fail seemed to come on earlier than 88k - but there's no guarantee, of course. But my supposition is: if it was gonna go, it would've gone already.

Hi all well finally things got a little quicker and the car is now home. I will post some pics later. The drive home was fun but now its in the garage and I need to wait for spring to come! Awesome drive never had type of car before. Since I drive a big SUV everyday it felt like going karting.

Smile I know how you feel

I too jump from a SUV or Micra into a boxster and its weird, I tend to drive the SUV fast and the boxster slow, don't know why. ?
We have just got some fresh snow so the Boxsters inside the garage and the SUV on the drive, roll on spring. Just hope summer is better this year in the UK.
