2013 Porsche Carrera 4, 4S Revealed: Photos, Pricing

Quote:
Revealed ahead of its official debut at the Paris Motor Show next month, Porsche has revealed its all-new Carrera 4 lineup.

Available as a Carrera 4 and 4S in both coupe and cabriolet, the car is nearly identical to the two-wheel drive model, except for the addition of Porsche’s latest generation PTM (Porsche Traction Management) AWD system and a wide rear body to house it. In total, the car is roughly one inch wider on each side while the rear tire size has been upped by 10 mm as well.

Designed to deliver a rear-wheel drive bias, Porsche has cut weight from the system and from the car itself, resulting in a total curb weight that is 143 lbs less than the model it replaces. In addition, this helps reduce fuel consumption by as much as 16 percent.

Base Carrera 4 models make 350-hp from a 3.4-liter flat-six, delivering a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds in the coupe and 4.5 seconds in the cabriolet while achieving a 20/28-mpg and 20/27-mpg city/highway rating respectively.

S models gain a 3.8-liter flat-six with 400-hp and can hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds (coupe) or 4.1 seconds (cabriolet) while both achieving 19/26-mpg.

Added upgrades for 2013 include a display in the instrument cluster that shows how PTM is distributing engine power, while AWD models now get an optional Adaptive Cruise Control feature that (when ordered with the PDK 7-speed dual-clutch transmission) comes with the Porsche Active Safe (PAS) feature to prevent front-end collisions. PDK models equipped with the Sport Chrono package will also automatically double-declutch during downshifts.

On sale in early 2013, the Carrera 4 will retail for $91,030, the Carrera 4 Cabriolet at $102,930, the 4S at $105,630 and the 4S Cabriolet at $117,530.
