My first attempt at buying a Boxster was back in 1997, when I found the car's interior just too cramped for my 6'3" frame. Since then I've owned a BMW Z3,a Z4, a 2005 Corvette coupe, and now a 2009 Corvette convertible. After a few years with the Corvettes, I've begun to miss the thrill of a pure sports car, so I thought I'd give the new Boxster a look. I just came back from my nearest Porsche dealer, who's a good 2 1/2 drive away. As it turned out, the drive was worth it.
I was very pleasantly surprised by how much room the 2013 has compared to the original Boxster. More than enough legroom, and plenty of headroom. The quality of the interior was exceptional, especially compared the Vette. Overall, just a beautiful car that seemed to be put together very well.
After an awful lot of self debate, I decided not to go with the S and stay with the base model. After all those years with the huge torque of the Vettes, I wanted to get back to using more of the car's potential. I rarely could take advantage of all that power ... when I did it was a thrill, bu those thrills have been few and far between, especially given the use of laser guns by the local police. So, while the S is certainly quicker, I really was looking for more of a car that I could just toss around on our local mountain roads. I think the base model should do exactly what I want it to. However ... I am reserving the right to change my mind since I still haven't really completely convinced myself about this choice.
So, I ordered a base Boxster with the 6 speed manual, Premium package, Infotainment with Bose, silver with two tone leather interior in black and gray, 19" S wheels and tires, and the multi-function steering wheel. The order is in and I should see the car sometime in April. Meanwhile, I'll get my Cyber Gray Vette listed for sale.
