2014 Porsche Cayman Revealed With Last-Gen 911 Performance

Quote:
Loved by enthusiasts but ignored by those who can afford it, Porsche has revealed an all new Cayman today at the LA Auto Show with a sleek body, a luxurious interior and performance that rivals the previous generation 911.

With a body so low and wide it might be able to capture potential 911 customers on its looks alone, the new Cayman will come standard with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine making 275 hp and capable of hitting 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds when equipped with a PDK 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the optional Sport Chrono Package. As for the Cayman S, it will gain a 3.4-liter flat-six with 325 hp and similarly equipped will blast to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Compared to the previous generation 911, the new Cayman S makes just 20 less horsepower and will hit 60 in just one-tenth of a second slower.

Sharing its platform with the new 2013 Boxster, the Cayman is lower, wider and longer than the car it replaces. The lightweight aluminum and steel body in its new dimensions will help deliver a more refined ride, as well as more grip to deliver performance Porsche says is, “without equal in its competitive class.”

Another notable change is inside the cabin, with hightened use of premium materials and a design borrowed from the Panamera.

Sharing the stage with the new 911 in LA is the new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, as well as the Panamera Platinum Edition, starting at $80,500.

Hitting dealerships in Spring of 2013, the base Cayman is priced at $52,600 while the Cayman S will retail for $63,800, plus a $950 destination charge.
