Anyone else do their own oil changes and cut the filter open every time?
Mine is free of any particles whatsoever.

Hey there .... Looking at maybe buying a 03 Boxster ... 24 k miles and do not know what I am in for when it comes to regular maintenance / oil changes.
Do these cars require special Porsche oil filters or oil itself that can only be purchased at a Porsche dealer?
I will not be able to do own service and will need to use local oil change facilites to do this service.
Is a standard Boxster oil change a big deal or can it be done with out taking it to the $100 p/hr Porsche dealer?
Thanks for any advise here. Possible new Boxster owner here and do not know what awaits me in owning one of these cars.
Yep did mine yesterday and checked it carefully to ensure there was no particules in there and found none.
As for filters, I have always used original filters on all my cars and never had an issue so I am continuing in the same path. Paid full retail price of 40 dollars at the dealer last week... The next one will be ordered online :-)
Have not changed oil myself on my cars for over 20 years. Found a local Porsche mechanic who does my oil change for $100. That's hard to beat when you consider these cars take 9-10 quarts of synthetic oil.

My oil changes are done at Freed Performance, 6075 Parkway North Drive, Cumming, GA 30040. Telephone number is 770-337-2211. Owners name is Sean Freed. Sean is an excellent mechanic with years of Porsche service experience.

Agreed! And there is the issue of getting rid of used oil.
